Hair Chronicles: The Politics of Self and Hair

At the beginning of the summer, I decided I wanted to shave my hair off. It seemed like such a big decision then to me (read more here and here). Everyday after, my hair is still a significant decision. To shave or not to shave. To straighten or not to straighten. These are questions that I have to ask myself everyday as I look at myself in the mirror.

Do No Harm

I have always wanted to be a teacher. It was an experience that I kept on my bucket list. To me, teaching has always been about more than just impacting content. Teaching is about mentorship, shaping attitude, being a champion for your students’ success and being someone that they can look up to. I am lucky that I get be a teacher everyday at work.

A New Job

i recently started a new job. Well, recently is a bit of a stretch but I did start a job in the past month or so. After being unemployed for so long, it has taken some discipline to readjust to having a routine. It has also taken some getting use to the level of responsibility that comes with the job.

The truth though is that I love my job so I have no complaints to rant about here. It is everything I want at the moment so I am making a conscious effort to enjoy everyday and not let the weariness engulf me.

In the past month or so though, I feel like my whole world has been all about the new job. And for that I have been immensely grateful. However, I have come to a point now when I am not so tired at the end of the day and I see a space in my life for other activities.

I am hopeful that I will figure out what I want to do at this point of my life and do it. For now though, I am enjoying working and figuring out what comes next

Hey There!

I feel like I have been gone forever. i just wanted to say hello.

An Evening At the Museum

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of going for a reception at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for a new exhibition called Sacred Pages. Sacred Pages displays the different pages of various Qur’ans that the museum has in its collection.

Very Cherry Berry Soda

I have been looking for ways to spring life into my drink arsenal. This is hard because I don’t drink alcohol so it is not like I can just spring up some cocktail. One way to do this is to start making my own cordials for mixing. This cordial is based on a sauce that I make when I bake a white chocolate cheesecake.

Review: Plated Herb and Mustard Salmon

Last week I put up a video of my experience opening up the box that I had received from Plated. This video is a review of my experience making the Herb and Mustard Salmon.

Trailer: Mother of George

I am in love and I want the world to know it. I had heard about Andrew Dosunmu’s movie “Mother of George” randomly. Then I read a brief synopsis from the Sundance Film Festival circuit (here) and that just whetted my appetite more. Now the first trailer is out and the visual power is amazing.

Print is Everything

My sister and I share a love of fashion. We are constantly exchanging images and inspiration. She sent me a link this morning that made so excited about clothes. The link was for an article on De-Mes’Tiks NY, a line by Reuben Reuel. The image above is from his new collection. I visited his Etsy store and I fell so much in love with his aesthetics. The clothes look so vibrant because of the vividness of the prints. I knew I had to share it here.

Hair Chronicles: To Grow or To Chop

Back in May, I decided that I wanted a radical change and I did a big chop shave ( You can read about that decision here). Now it is August and the first curls of my shaven head have sprouted into the beginning stages of an Afro. I am debating if I want to take another visit to the barber shop and have it shaved off. Or if I want to re-commit to the hair.
